How do repeating expenses and their reminders work?

Last updated

In the expense, set Repeats to Weekly, Every 2 weeks, Monthly or Yearly. The expense then says how often it repeats and when it is next.

Our server adds a copy of it overnight on each date it comes due, dated that day, the same as the original. Its History says it was added because the expense repeats. Repeats pause while the group is archived; once it is unarchived, the dates it missed are added, up to 12 a night for each expense.

About a day before each copy is added on its date, everyone who will owe on it is told, with their share, if their Group activity notifications are on. Whoever it is owed to is not told, and copies added late for dates missed while the group was archived come with no reminder.

If someone a repeating expense names leaves the group, each copy from the next one on is split among the people still in it, by the expense's own split, and Activity says it was split again because they left. Their share goes to the others by the same rule, what they paid is covered by the others who paid, and an exact amount or a receipt line that was only theirs comes off the total. When nobody it names is left to pay it or share it, or its split no longer works without them, no copy is added: it moves on to its next date, Activity says it didn't repeat, and it repeats again once it can be paid and split among the people in the group, with no charge for the dates it skipped.

To stop it, edit the original expense and set Repeats to Never. Copies already added stay, and each can be edited or deleted like any expense.
